Elmwood Murdock
Elementary School received a grant through the Nebraska Information
Technology Commission (NITC) to implement a unique program called
"The Web Parent Program". The primary goal of this project
is to promote Internet literacy throughout all grades. Along with
promoting use of the web for life-long learning and communications,
children, teachers and parents will be taught to use caution against
personal exposure, and to recognize dangerous and inappropriate use of the
web.
The Web Parent
Program seeks to accomplish the goal of advancing Internet literacy
through the following project objectives:
 |
Train
teachers and a classroom web-parent on how to develop web pages and
use Internet tools. |
 |
Integrate
Internet tools into classroom curriculum. |
 |
Measure
baseline Internet literacy, and measure literacy improvement at the
middle and at the end of the project. |
 |
Launch an
online newsletter to promote Internet literacy to the community. |
 |
Provide an
opportunity for our students to exhibit their work to distant
friends and family |
 |
Teach
student awareness of the power of the Internet as a global
connection for communication. |
 |
Teach
student awareness of practical use of the web for getting access to
government and business information. |
 |
Teach
student awareness of the power of the Internet as a tool for life
long learning. |
 |
Teach safe
practices when using the Internet. |
 |
Develop a
baseline awareness of community Internet literacy through home
surveys. |
