AUTUMN ACTIVITIES

We divided our class into three groups for Reading Time. One group goes with Mrs. Oliva to the Red Reading Room built inside our Teacher's Workroom. Another group goes to the Reading Rug in our classroom with Mrs. Glantz, while a third group does seatwork with our para-professional. We change the members of our group often and rotate, too

One of our special activities was to learn how to do a research project. Two students worked with Mrs. Oliva to learn the process. Now they will train two others who will train others who will train others until we are all experts

Our Reading Responses at the end of our stories are always fun to do. We have made Apple Smiles and baked Hedgehog's Yellow Cake recipe. After reading Lemonade for Sale, we studied the different kinds of graphs like we saw in the story. Our title was Our Favorite Drinks for each different kind of graph.

We made stick puppets of the characters from Johnny Appleseed play. Then we worked together to make a long mural for display in our lunchroom. It showed John Chapman's life as a young person, an adult, and as a older person.

Each day we do some kind of writing. Sometimes we "journal" in the morning. Other times we work form our Writing Folders. We are practicing our skills a the Six Traits of Writing. After we work on editing, we "publish" our stories in our shape booklets. Look at these turkey books!

We found a project during our computer lesson which showed how to make a turkey by tracing our feet for the body and our hands for the feathers. Gobble, gobble!

It's always fun to trace "handprint turkeys" but we wanted to learn how to draw a more realistic looking turkey so we followed 'step by step' directions to get these results. What nice turkeys!
