Recruitment of members and chapters
Throughout the school year, the officers and business teachers conducted activities in an effort to promote FBLA. |
|
| |
Development of Theme
The 2004-2005 officers gave ample consideration to a local theme that was unique and easily incorporated into projects and meetings throughout the year. The local theme “Turn It Up With FBLA” was adopted, and a musical note became the local symbol indicating the chapter’s desire to increase enthusiasm through participating in FBLA activities. |
|
| |
Publicity
During the year, posters were displayed in the school building. These posters informed students about FBLA activities and meetings and encouraged students to join. |
|
| |
Trophy Case
When entering Elmwood-Murdock High School, students and visitors pass by the FBLA trophy case. The display of awards won by present and former FBLA members exemplifies the strength of the chapter’s program of work and the opportunities for individual excellence. |

| |
FBLA Recruitment Meeting
A recruitment meeting was held in August. Sixty potential members attended. The officers planned a fun-filled, entertaining evening with activities that were based on different music genres. The activities coincided with the local theme, “Turn It Up With FBLA.” All in attendance had a chance to participate and win prizes. |
|
| |
Membership Incentives
Using the FBLA theme, the officers placed a ticket in each locker on the first day of school, which guaranteed a “surprise” to those potential members who brought the ticket to the first meeting. |
|
| |
Officer Post Office
The FBLA officers were more available to members and advisers by having their own mailboxes. Whenever a message or “mail” needed the attention of officers, they received it via mailboxes located in the business room. |
|
| |
Junior High Activities
This year, the Elmwood-Murdock FBLA chapter expanded its activities into the junior high. This enabled these students to be introduced to FBLA. High school members taught a leadership lesson to seventh grade students through an activity titled “Leadership Man.” The male seventh grade students also participated in an activity titled “Leadership Grab Bag” and the females in “Freeze Frame.” A business competition was conducted for all junior high students, as well. This year 100 percent of all 61 middle school students participated. |
|
| |
FBLA Dues
As an incentive to pay dues early, students earned five bonus points toward attending the State FBLA Conference. |
|
| |
FBLA Officer Badges
Professionally engraved badges were provided for the officers and were worn to all official FBLA functions. The badges provided a professional image and identified the officers at all functions. |
|
| |
FBLA Membership Recognition
At the annual awards ceremony, four-year medals were awarded to all individuals who had participated in FBLA throughout their high school careers. At the awards ceremony in May 2004, medals were awarded to Danielle Anderson, Jared Blunt, Brent Bober, Danny Custard, Cory Lenz, Dominick Leone, Nate McHugh, Andy McLaughlin, Jessica Mills, Brandon Minch, Cliff Ortlieb, Logan Ronhovde, Morgan Smith, Craig Taylor, and Jamie Zeorian. |

| |
Wall of Fame
The Elmwood-Murdock Booster Club has established a Wall of Fame to recognize outstanding accomplishments of Elmwood-Murdock students in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Criteria for FBLA recognition is to win Mr./Ms. FBL at the state level or to place in the top ten of any event at the national level. Nineteen members have achieved this recognition through their achievements. |
