State Leadership Conference
Thirty members attended the State Leadership Conference on April 1-3, 2004, at the Holiday Convention Center in Omaha, Nebraska. During the conference students attended seminars and participated in competitive events. A chapter meeting at the conference allowed members to decide which candidates to endorse. |

Summer Board Meeting
The July 26, 2004, meeting was a summer Executive Board meeting. Newly elected officers chose a local theme and set goals for the year. |

Cheer Meeting
Twenty-eight chapter members attended the CHEER Meeting at Waverly High School on January 27, 2005. The evening consisted of FBLA Bingo, competitive testing, and an informative speech by Nebraska State FBLA Reporter, Brandon Matulka. |

Fundraising Kick-off
The November 15 meeting was a regular business meeting where a Club’s Choice Representative, Steve Higgins, presented information and provided food samples to kick off the chapter's annual fundraising project. Good salesmanship tips were discussed. |

Merchants’ Association
FBLA members regularly attend Merchants’ Association meetings, which are held monthly. Morgan Smith served as the Merchants’ Association president in 2004. |

Elmwood-Murdock FBLA has subscribed to the FBLA Listserv where members regularly receive up-to-date information about Nebraska FBLA. |

Career Fair
On November 23, 2004, Elmwood-Murdock FBLA hosted a Career Fair for all students in grades 7-12. Tycha Peterson, from Hamilton College, gave the keynote speech titled, “Colors: Key to Character.” Thirteen other individuals gave presentations. |

Partnership with Business Shadow and Website
In order to learn more about how entrepreneurs and small business owners operate their businesses, a Business Interaction Committee was formed. FBLA members were “partnered” with all 41 members of the Elmwood-Murdock Merchants’ Association. Each FBLA member shadowed their respective business and surveyed the owner on the history of the business, marketing strategies, use of technology, and their goals for the future. A web site containing the information was then created. |

Christmas Cards for Business
In appreciation to local businesses for their cooperation with completing the survey for the Partnership with Business project, FBLA members delivered Christmas cards containing a complimentary ticket to the Merchants’ Association Banquet. |

Husker Vision Program
As one of FBLA’s professional activities this year, members attended a tour of the Husker Vision facilities. In a joint venture, FCCLA members were invited to attend as well. |

Parli-Pro Moment
Local chapter parliamentarian, Luke Luetchens, conducted short demonstrations of parliamentary procedure rudiments at monthly local meetings. These presentations explained to new and inexperienced members the basic rules for conducting meetings. |

Foreign Exchange Student Seminar
This year, Elmwood-Murdock had two foreign exchange students: a boy from Russia and a girl from South Korea. In an effort to allow more students to get to know them, FBLA held a question session at a local chapter meeting. Information given consisted of school routines and activities in everyday life. As an act of appreciation, the local chapter paid dues for the two students. |

I-Safe Assembly
FBLA members presented an assembly to students in grades 7-12 at Elmwood-Murdock over Internet safety in February. The presentation was developed with the help of I-SAFE America curriculum and educated students on the hazards of providing personal information online, the unlawfulness of downloading music, and the techniques used to respond to inappropriate online behaviors. A similar assembly was given to students in grades 4-6 on February 8, 2005. At Parent-Teacher Conferences, which were also held on February 8, FBLA members provided parents with helpful tips and reminders which can be used to teach children about Internet safety. |

Safari Field Trip
On February 9, 2005, Elmwood-Murdock FBLA members led sixth grade students on a “safari.” A school bus, decorated with a jungle theme, transported the students to 12 businesses in Elmwood and Murdock where students sought 12 different animals. When the students found the animals, they discovered information on the back of the posters explaining each of the businesses where the animals were located. The students also received a professional tour of Oxbow Pet Products, a local business. |

Safety Website
A safety website was developed by FBLA members to provide information and resources related to safety concerns. The website was linked to the Elmwood-Murdock High School web site and addresses several safety issues including: bicycle, fire, backpack, Internet, seatbelt, Halloween, and winter driving. In addition, individuals who access the website have the opportunity to print handouts for each of the safety areas. |

Funding Factory
Members collected 60 printer ink cartridges and 33 cell phones to raise money for the school through the recycling company called the Funding Factory. |

Knight Vision
This year the Elmwood-Murdock chapter of FBLA opened a new business, “Knight Vision.” The online business allows students, parents, and community patrons to view and order products from various Elmwood-Murdock school organizations. The chapter’s Partnership With Business committee planned the marketing, production, and business operations of the new store. |

American Education Week
On November 15, FBLA members provided the Elmwood-Murdock staff with apples. Attached to the apples was a note which read, “You’re the core of our education.” |
