Coaches Comments:
The Elmwood-Murdock Knights let the game’s first scoring opportunity slip away at the start of the 2nd Qtr. The Knights were attempting a 27 yard FG after Kevin Zoz hit Trent Shrader on a 33 yard pass play setting up the Knights on the Bergan 17 yard line. “We had a breakdown in our protection and Christian Victor broke through the line clean blocking the FG and returned it 83 yards for a TD. That definitely hurt our momentum after working hard to get the ball in scoring position. We feel that Kevin Zoz can kick consistently from 40 yards and then we had a mental lapse. There was still a lot of time left in the game and we have to learn to overcome adversity. We had some good drives in the 2nd half, but were stalled due to a penalty or a missed blocking assignment. Bergan has a strong defense and they have 11 players that run very well to the ball. Their speed on defense gave us some problems. We had 4 new players starting in the offensive line for the first time and it takes time to develop into a cohesive unit. We will improve with each game. Bergan ran a spread offense that forced us to play a lot of man for man coverage. Their offensive scheme created some mismatches for our defense. The Knights return to action next Friday with a 7:00 p.m. contest with Friend scheduled to be played in Elmwood.
