Coaches Comments:

What a game! Kevin Zoz kicked a 24 yard Field Goal with 2:40 left in the game and the Knights were able to hold on and defeat Howells, the #1 team in the state 3-0. This was a very satisfying win for our program. It was the first time that we were matched up against the #1 team and our players really responded to the challenge. We told them all week if they wanted to be remembered for something for a long time, a victory over Howells on their home field would accomplish that. The game was a close battle to the end. Howells missed a 25 yard field goal in the 1st quarter and we had a 41 yard field goal blocked and failed on a fake field goal attempt in the 4th quarter. The Knights had good field position for most of the 4th quarter. We had three different opportunities to score. I’m just glad that we were able to convert on one of them. Give Howells a lot of credit. They are a great defensive team. The toughest defense we have ever played against. We got 10 first downs to their 9, but none of it came easy. They held us well below our season average on offense and I believe their 179 total yards was well below their season average. Our defense bent at times but did not break. A goal line stand right before the end of the 1st Half was huge and gave us momentum going into halftime. Statistically, we outplayed them in the second half running 25 plays to their 10. We had 75 rushing yards to their 24 in the 2nd half. Jon Luetchens had 2 interceptions in the game, the last one with 1:50 seconds left in the game. We needed a key 1st down to run the clock out. On 3rd and 6 David Davis was able to get outside on a sweep gaining 10 yards and staying in bounds. From there the Knights took a knee three times and the celebration was on. The Knights host 2nd ranked Wakefield in the Quarterfinals on Monday, November 5. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
